The COVID-19 pandemic led to a surge in hiking popularity, as many people sought outdoor activities to replace closed amenities. However, this influx of hikers, many of whom were inexperienced and unprepared, resulted in a significant increase in emergency call-outs, highlighting the need for greater hiking safety awareness, particularly among teenagers.
Solution
This engaging and informative podcast aims to educate teenagers about essential hiking safety principles, highlight common hiking hazards, and provide practical safety tips and advice. By empowering teenagers with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed decisions and minimize the risk of accidents, the podcast course contributes to a safer and more enjoyable hiking experience for all.
Overview
This instructional podcast was developed in November 2021 as part of an assignment on the MA Technical Communication and E-Learning at the University of Limerick, Ireland. The project brief required the development of a 7-10 minute instructional podcast on a chosen topic that would enable a learner to undertake one or more tasks.
